SCENTSYMPHONY
Lyra, is a film without [outer] images
43 precisely timed certified-organic scents, spices, herbs, woods, resins, incense mixes, essences, and extracts are paired with 28 minutes of prerecorded sound and music [by Erich Berghammer] to form a multi-sensory unity, accompanied by the appearance of inner images, associations and blissful emotions.
Plot
The daughter of a scientist on a distanced planet activates a probe from earth with an enclosed olfactory and acoustic message.
Storyline
Lyra, the daughter of a scientist on a distant planet, activates a probe from outer space—possibly from Earth. An olfactory and auditory voyage through time and space begins; the device paints a picture of the planet Earth, where there are oceans, continents, countries, and cultures. Lyra smells and hears the sound of the sea, singing monks, fragrant incense, flowers, fire, animals, plants, the scent of spices, delicacies, and blossoming trees; she boards a plane, lands in a city, meanders through a market, observes buildings, visits a temple, and wanders through a tropical garden.
How Does It Work?
Carefully selected and coordinated sequences of natural scents are fanned through a darkened venue and aligned with sound to create a realistic and synesthetic experience that challenges the perception of time and space.
